Il Faro di Punta Tagliamento

The lighthouse is located on the peak of the estuary of the Tagliamento river and was built in '900, when the coastline was more forward.

Then the lighthouse did not lie on the beach where it is now. In fact in the last 30 years a wide portion of the beach was eroded and some breakwater roadbeds were built to save the lighthouse.These roadbeds fight the erosion and let the new sand brought by the Tagliamento accumulate. Both nature and man changed the beach in a quick and frequent way during the last century.

The coastline moved forward from the 16th to the first half of the 20th century, as the historical maps show. The building is now abandoned; it lies in a very interesting environment and should be renovated for its importance in the community history, culture and social history.
